Product Description

Fortune Cat™ Fiber Manufacturing LLP

Advanced Absorbent Core Solutions for Hygiene Products

Absorbent Core Technologies

The Heart of Every Sanitary Pad & Diaper

The absorbent core is the most critical component of any hygiene product — determining absorption speed, leak prevention, rewet performance, and overall user comfort. At Fortune Cat™ Fiber Manufacturing LLP, we engineer and manufacture a full spectrum of absorbent cores for sanitary pads, baby diapers, adult incontinence products, and nursing pads.

Our proprietary technologies — Fortune Cat Shield (chitosan antibacterial integration), Fortune Cat PureBio (fully biodegradable systems), and Fortune Cat DryWave (fluid management) — can be incorporated into any core type to meet your brand’s performance and sustainability goals.

Part 1: Core Types — Complete Technical Specifications

Based on current industry standards and our manufacturing capabilities, absorbent cores fall into two primary categories, with several advanced variants.

1. Fluff Pulp Core (Traditional / Wood Pulp Core)

Structure & Composition

A homogeneous mixture of fluff pulp (70–80%) and superabsorbent polymer (SAP, 20–30%) , without layered separation or adhesive bonding. The fluff pulp provides rapid liquid wicking and distribution, while SAP locks fluid away from the skin.

Technical Parameters

ParameterTypical Value
SAP Content20–30%
Fluff Pulp Content70–80%
Basis Weight150–400 g/m²
Core Thickness (dry)3–8 mm
Absorbency Capacity100–400 mL (depending on size)
Retention Under Load10–18 g/g
BiodegradabilityPartial (pulp degrades; SAP does not)

Advantages

  • Excellent fluid wicking and distribution
  • Fast initial absorption
  • Lower manufacturing cost
  • Proven, mature technology

Disadvantages

  • Absorbs water and expands unevenly — prone to lumping, clumping, and sagging during use
  • Thicker and bulkier than composite alternatives
  • Non-biodegradable SAP component persists in landfills for >500 years

Best Applications

  • Economy-grade sanitary pads
  • Adult incontinence briefs (high capacity requirement)
  • Healthcare underpads

2. Composite Core (Full SAP Core / Airlaid Core)

Structure & Composition

A layered structure composed of nonwoven fabric + SAP + tissue paper, bonded with hot melt adhesive. Each layer is precisely engineered for fluid acquisition, distribution, and storage.

Technical Parameters

ParameterTypical Value
SAP Content60–80%
Nonwoven/Tissue Content20–40%
Basis Weight100–350 g/m²
Core Thickness (dry)0.8–2.5 mm
Absorbency Capacity150–500 mL
Retention Under Load18–28 g/g
BiodegradabilityLow (SAP non-biodegradable)

Advantages

  • Ultra-thin — enables sleek product design
  • No clumping or sagging — retains shape when wet
  • High SAP concentration provides superior fluid retention
  • Excellent rewet performance

Disadvantages

  • Higher manufacturing complexity and cost
  • Hot melt adhesives may introduce VOCs and formaldehyde
  • Slower initial absorption versus fluff pulp cores

Best Applications

  • Premium ultra-thin sanitary pads
  • Premium baby diapers (overnight, active fit)
  • Adult pull-up pants

3. Hybrid Core (Semi-Core / Combination Core)

Structure & Composition

An engineered combination: upper layer of composite core (for thinness and stability) + lower layer of fluff pulp/SAP mixture (for rapid wicking and bulk absorption). This design represents a compromise between traditional and composite technologies.

Advantages

  • Balances cost and performance
  • Improved fluid distribution versus pure composite
  • Reduced adhesive content versus full composite

Disadvantages

  • Still contains non-biodegradable SAP
  • Moderate clumping risk

Best Applications

  • Mid-tier sanitary pads
  • Mid-tier baby diapers
  • Products requiring balance of thinness and capacity

4. Needle-Punched Non-Adhesive Core (Gel-Free)

Structure & Composition

three-layer structure: top nonwoven + intermediate layer (cotton fibers + SAP granules) + bottom nonwoven, bonded via needle-punching technology without any hot melt adhesive or chemical binders.

Advantages

  • Zero adhesive — no formaldehyde, no VOCs, no toxic residues
  • Environmentally friendlier manufacturing
  • Good structural integrity without chemical bonding

Disadvantages

  • Lower production speed than conventional methods
  • Limited availability from manufacturers

Best Applications

  • Organic/natural hygiene brands
  • Medical-grade products requiring zero chemical additives

5. Biopolymer Core (Biodegradable / Plant-Based)

Structure & Composition

Uses natural biopolymers (cellulose, chitosan, sodium alginate, CMC, starch derivatives) to replace or significantly reduce petroleum-based SAP. Aligns with Fortune Cat PureBio program.

Advantages

  • Truly biodegradable (compostable under industrial conditions)
  • Non-toxic, skin-friendly
  • Made from renewable resources (plant waste, agricultural byproducts)
  • Low carbon footprint potential

Current Limitations

  • Slightly lower absorbency under load than premium synthetic SAP
  • Higher material cost at present scale
  • Industrial composting infrastructure still developing

Best Applications

  • Eco-friendly / sustainable brand lines
  • Products targeting EU markets (EN 13432 compliance)
  • Premium natural hygiene ranges

6. Chitosan-Enhanced Core — Fortune Cat Shield

Structure & Composition

patented modification applicable to ANY core type above — fluff pulp, composite, biopolymer, or needle-punched. Chitosan (derived from shellfish or fungal sources) is incorporated into the core via:

  • Chitosan-grafted viscose fibers blended into the core matrix
  • Chitosan hydrogel coating on SAP granules
  • Chitosan nonwoven layers within core structure
